Reporting to the Executive Director, Salsa in Toronto Festival, and working alongside senior members of the Special Events Team and members of the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will join the Marketing/Digital Media team to help produce, manage, and professionally execute various cultural initiatives and logistics related to the Salsa in Toronto Festival. The individual will gain direct hands-on experience in a positive and encouraging workplace and will acquire valuable career-related work experience in Event Management. This is an 8 week term position ending no later than August 30th, 2024.

This is an 8 week term summer position ending no later than September 1st 2023.

South Bruce Peninsula is looking for its next Tourism & Event Co-Ordinator

Status: Full Time Position

Perfectly positioned on the beautiful Bruce Peninsula between the shores of Lake Huron and Georgian bay, South Bruce Peninsula is an amazing vacation destination with a long history of regional tourism including the communities of Wiarton, Sauble Beach, Oliphant and Red Bay.

A newly created position in our exciting tourist destination awaits you just west of Owen Sound. This is an incredible opportunity to expand your career in Tourism Management and Event Co-ordination.

Reporting to the Municipal Accommodation Tax Association (MATA) Board of Directors, the Tourism and Event Co-Ordinator will be responsible to work with tourism partners and community businesses to attract overnight visitors to the Town of South Bruce Peninsula. The emphasis of events will be fall, spring and winter seasons. The incumbent will develop and implement strategic marketing plans, plan and facilitate events and activities and be point person for our Not For Profit (NFP).

Education and Experience:

  • Diploma in Tourism, Hospitality or Marketing preferred
  • Proficient in industry related software
  • Experience within the tourism industry preferred
  • Experience in creating customer focused public events

Skills and Abilities:

  • Positive attitude with strong organization and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent customer service ethic and high expectations for quality
  • Ability to manage and accomplish multiple projects without supervision
  • Develop and implement new activities and events focusing on shoulder seasons as well existing events
  • Administration and co-ordination of events from start to finish including development of marketing plans, event materials and event evaluation
  • Prepare and maintain an annual event calendar
  • Event and tourism package promotions including websites and social media
  • Ability to establish and foster good relationships with volunteers, stakeholders, the travel trade, hospitality trade and regional tourism partners
  • Ability to co-manage information centre and employees
  • Ability to oversee and assist set up and take down for inside or outside events including lifting up to 50lbs and long periods of walking and standing
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, holidays and weekends as required
  • Must be able to travel occasionally for meetings and events
  • A professional demeanor and ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Experience with creating and maintaining budgets
  • Experience in grant application and necessary follow up reporting
