Markham Canada Day

Markham’s Canada Day Celebrations on July 1, 2024, brought together the city’s diverse community and visitors to honour and celebrate both Markham’s and Canada’s values of diversity and inclusivity.
There were two parts to the special day, beginning with a Citizenship Ceremony at the Markham Civic Centre from 9 to 11 AM. Under the administration of the City Clerk and Presiding Official Kevin Junor, the City of Markham welcomed and celebrated 50 new Canadian citizens.
The second part of the day at Markham Centre featured a wide range of fun-filled activities from 3 to 11 PM. Markham’s Canada Day celebrations welcomed more than 28,000 visitors, who enjoyed an afternoon and evening filled with exciting entertainment and engaging activities. This year’s food line-up included a diverse variety of options, having the highest number of food vendors since 2019. Latin-Caribbean, Cambodian, Filipino, and Ecuadorian food were available, as well as an abundance of fair foods and desserts, such as ice cream, churros, corn, and bubble egg waffles. This year’s entertainment lineup featured a mix of returning fan-favourites, and new performances by some incredibly talented homegrown Canadian artists. The festivities concluded with a stunning fireworks display, the perfect finale to the day’s festivities.
