Fergus Scottish Festival & Highland Games
The Fergus Scottish Festival is dedicated to the preservation of the visual, musical, athletic, and written heritage of Scotland and those Scottish people who made Upper Canada their home through a celebration of culture, history, competition and education. Established in 1946, this year marks the 80th Anniversary of the Fergus Scottish Festival. Festival weekend hosts a competitive environment for Heavy Event athletes, Highland Dancers, as well as Pipe & Drum bands. Local and world class music and entertainers as well as a heritage and educational component of Scottish Clans and history round out the weekend. The Festival caters to all ages, abilities, and nationalities and strives to provide the ultimate Scottish experience right in our charming town of Fergus Ontario. The Festival is a popular community event, celebrating the local Scottish history that has kept the town strong and thriving.
Events kick off Thursday evening with a free community engagement event including a parade and entertainment with local bands. Friday showcases local musicians, performers and community groups for daytime celebrations downtown as well as at the Tattoo Ceremony, a concertand fireworks once Festival gates open. Throughout the weekend the Festival hosts the noted competitions as well as heritage performers, musicians, speakers, authors and a multitude of demonstrations and interactive activities. The weekend also features favourite Scottish entertainers and guests who have performed at the Festival over the years or may be joining us for the first time. There is a McKiddies childrens area, Whisky tasting, Tea Tent, and a wonderful array of vendors featuring Scottish fares and wares. We even have Highland cows.
For our 80th Anniversary this year, Saturday will also boast a"Scottish Saturday Night" concert with a popular musicians. Our Festival is celebratory, engaging, and educational and echoes the goal to commemorate local history and heritage and increase opportunities for local involvement.
