Amherstburg River Lights Winter Festival

River Lights Winter Festival was first created by residents that wanted to see more activity in our town during the colder months.  The Town of Amherstburg is a quint, historical, beautiful town and they wanted it to shine all year round.  That is when they applied for a grant to install light displays in the downtown park.  Fast forward to 17 years later this festival lights up the whole downtown with 100's of light displays and an Opening Night that thousands come to join.

Each season begins with the count down to the municipal tree lighting and fireworks. Every weekend for 6 weeks when visitors come to walk amongst the magical lights they can visit the heated life sized Gingerbread Warming House and view the submissions to the annual Gingerbread House Contest while sipping on free hot chocolate.

Every night, hundreds of customized LED light displays light up the town’s two main parks. King’s Navy Yard Park, along the Detroit River, features traditional displays that showcase the warm hearted feel of the season with carolers, angels, soldiers and more. Toddy Jones Park features whimsical, playful displays for the kids and the kid at heart to enjoy.
