Opening Day at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons

Ontario’s first European Community, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons was the headquarters for the French Jesuit Mission to the Huron-Wendat people. In 1639, the Jesuits, along with French lay workers, began construction of a palisaded community that included barracks, a church, workshops, residences, and a sheltered area for Indigenous visitors. This community was abandoned and burned down in 1649.
After extensive archaeological and historical research, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons is now recreated on its original site, where the mission’s compelling story is brought to life with costumed historical interpreters and activities.

38th Annual Pelham Art Festival

Petapolooza Pickering

Petapolooza brings together pet owners and enthusiasts within our community. It gives our community the opportunity to meet industry professionals, rescue groups, and others in the pet industry.

On Saturday May 10th, Petapolooza kicks off the beginning of our yearlong events and has grown to be one of the City’s largest outdoor events.  Last years  Petapolooza Pet Festival saw a record breaking attendance of over 4,000 people and brought in  over $40,000 ($13,077 in donations from the day of).

Petapolooza is Animal Services largest fundraiser with all proceeds going towards building Pickering a permanent animal shelter and/or for the day to day care of animals housed at the shelter, including unforeseen medical costs.

Guelph Musicfest presents Bénédicte Lauzière (violin) & Ken Gee (piano)

Guelph Musicfest opens its 5-concert 2025 series at the Guelph Youth Music Centre with a recital by Bénédicte Lauzière (violin) & Ken Gee (piano). Described as “beautiful to watch and breathtaking to hear” by the Guelph Mercury, violinist Bénédicte Lauzière enjoys a prolific career on the Canadian stage. She is concertmaster of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, with which she is often featured as a soloist. She is an avid chamber musician; her recent collaborations include Emanuel Ax and members of the Penderecki String Quartet. Ken Gee is the founder and artistic director of Guelph Musicfest. PROGRAM: Tchaikovsky, Melodie in E-flat major op. 42; Amy Beach, Violin Sonata, op. 34; Debussy, Clair de lune (arr. Roelens); Brahms, Violin Sonata no. 2 in A major, op. 100; Chopin, Nocturne in c-sharp minor (arr. Milstein)
