Event Description

Global Voices features the spectacular sounds of Canadian global divas Tamar Ilana, Meher Pavri, Suba Sankaran (curator), Jordana Talsky and Turkwaz. Take a spin around the world in 55 minutes with a cappella music spanning several centuries and styles, from live-looping to opera, flamenco dance to Eastern Mediterranean and Balkan songs, with unexpected stops in between. This is where singing goes beyond borders and cultures collide!

DORA award-winning, thrice JUNO-nominated world/fusion vocalist/musician @sankaransuba has effortlessly combined musical worlds, performing across 6 continents in over 25 countries with Autorickshaw, master drummer Trichy Sankaran, FreePlay (a cappella/live-looping duo with Dylan Bell) and Retrocity (80s a cappella revue), to name a few.

Jordana Talksy is a singer, songwriter and vocal loop artist who fuses multi-genre influences into her own sound. She accompanies herself by voice with a Boss RC505 loop machine, creating a choir on the spot with no pre-recorded parts.

Turkwaz is a unique combination of four musician/singers, immersed in diverse traditions from mysterious Sufi devotional love songs, to rousing Thracian dance music. Each performer brings a special flavour to the group.

Parsi-Canadian soprano, Meher Pavri, is a multidisciplinary artist who enjoys performing in opera, musical theatre, theatre, film/television and is most passionate about new Canadian works.

Tamar Ilana is an internationally renowned award-winning vocalist in over 20 languages and a mesmerizing flamenco dancer and choreographer. She has released 3 albums and been nominated for 4 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
