NIKOLA TESLA DAY FESTIVAL

Event Description

The well-known Nikola Tesla Day is an annual International Festival which celebrates Tesla's birthday at a provincial level in Ontario.

Originating from a vision of a Serbian school, "Nikola Tesla," this festival emerged on July 10th, 2010, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, to illuminate this visionary inventor's life, innovations, and profound impact on our modern society.

The festival's genesis aligns with Tesla's historic breakthrough in 1895, where he pioneered the alternating current (AC) electrical system with the construction of the first hydroelectric power plant in Niagara Falls. This monumental achievement forever altered the trajectory of electricity generation and distribution, symbolizing a paradigm shift in technological advancement.

Recognizing Tesla's pivotal role, July 10th was officially declared "Nikola Tesla Day" by Mayor Jim Diodati in 2015, and then later enacted into law across Ontario by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Violet Elizabeth Dowdeswell, in 2021.

Over time, the celebration of Nikola Tesla Day has evolved into a festival of much broader scope and significance, named Tesla Fest.
