Inducted in 2012
Lloyd Grinham has been a volunteer with the Hillside Festival since 1999. Lloyd joined the Board of Directors in 2000 and served on the Board for 8 years sitting on many committees. Lloyd brought his vision and commitment to several Hillside projects. As an accomplished architect, Lloyd designed the permanent stage. He worked to develop partnerships with the City of Guelph and the GRCA. Lloyd designed and implemented the “green roof” to our permanent stage. Lloyd’s own personal commitment and Hillside’s core values of creating projects within a non-commercial, environmentally responsible framework have come together to create an environmentally responsible structure open to public use on public land in the Guelph Lake Conservation area.
As Site Director, Lloyd worked tirelessly to promote Health & Safety for both volunteers and patrons. Lloyd assisted in the creation of the pontoon boat transport of performers from the causeway to the Island in his role as GRCA liaison. Using the boat to transport performers to the island has significantly decreased the number and frequency of vehicles navigating through pedestrians entering the island and on the island itself. The result of this project has been improved safety and cleaner air for patrons and volunteers and a more sustainable causeway. Lloyd has been instrumental in the development and ongoing assessment of our risk management plan. The installation of lightning rods to both the stage and the pavilion, the implementation of an Emergency Preparedness Plan, and has created best practices for the Site crew, festival and its patrons.
Lloyd continues to bring his commitment and outstanding contributions to the industry in the areas of environmental stewardship and Health and Safety for a cleaner, greener and safer festival for all to enjoy.
