As Program Director of the HFAHC, Lloyd is responsible for for the organization of “It’s Your Festival”, as well as other initiatives of the Hamilton Folk Arts Heritage Council. Over the years Lloyd has achieved many accomplishments and has received many accolades.
Lloyd tripled the size of “It’s Your Festival” since 1990 to over 100,000 people attending the festival. He oversaw the Power of Rhythm a multi-cultural variety show which showcased to over 100 elementary schools in Hamilton to over 35,000 children and
received numerous awards pertaining to the multicultural appeal of the show. He has been instrumental in instituting Caribbean/Latin Day as part of “It’s Your Festival” featuring African-Canadian, Caribbean and South American performers, and in 1997 he brought the Ontario Youth Talent Search to Hamilton which has become an annual event. Lloyd was instrumental in bringing the “Corel Great Race” an international collection of over 100 pre-World War ll classic cars from Tacoma, Washington to Hamilton in 1996 as part of the sesqui- centennial activities providing international exposure to Hamilton. In 1998 The Hamilton Spectator joined the festival endorsing “The Hamilton Spectator Spelling Bee” which has become an annual event.
In 2006 Lloyd was recognized by Festivals & Events Ontario with the “Outstanding Volunteer Award” and in the same year Tourism Hamilton presented him with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his continued efforts to make Hamilton a great place to live and visit.
