Mr. Johnston, owner of Tom Johnston marketing in London, Ontario was a lifelong resident of Southwestern Ontario whose efforts in the corporate world and subsequently with his entrepreneurial endeavours have all had a strong connection to the world of festivals and events. Through the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, Tom worked for 3M Company managing the Cost Accounting Department. He was promoted to Advertising and Public Relations Manager for 3M Canada active in corporately sponsoring and supporting many charitable and community events.
Tom launched the London Balloon Fiesta drawing crowds annually of close to 30,000 people. He was also instrumental in launching the St. Mary’s Balloon Festival. Tom is very proud of his 12-year involvement in London’s Sunfest where he continues to consult and helps with its sponsorship. Tom has worked on projects such as the TV telethon, Walk for the Cure, Cinco de Mayo Mexican Festival, Pumpkinfest and Harvest Festival, and London Air Show. Tom is perhaps best known for his project and passion, SWO (South Western Ontario) Festivals and Events Magazine, produced quarterly since 1993. Tom Johnson exemplifies the passion and professionalism that has made Ontario’s festivals and events industries a major economic force in our province.
